Gas Interlock Systems

Gas Interlock Systems

What is a Gas Interlock System?

A gas interlock system prevents your gas supply being available in your kitchen in the event of an extraction failure or an emergency. A Pressure Switch (or Current Sensor) is fitted to your extraction system and is connected to a gas solenoid (valve); the Pressure Switch (or Current Sensor) must detect that your extraction system is working correctly and, if this is so, the system will energise the gas solenoid (valve) and allow you to use your equipment. In addition, if the STOP button on the Gas Interlock Control Panel is pressed in an emergency situation, the Gas Solenoid will close instantly. If required (for bigger kitchens), further remote stop buttons may be fitted at emergency exits.

When do you need to have this system fitted?

All new kitchen installations must have a Gas Interlock System fitted immediately. In existing kitchens, a system must be fitted at the next "major alteration' - if your kitchen has; a new canopy fitted; more than half of the gas cooking equipment replaced; new, or alterations to the gas pipework. If you are unsure about whether you need a Gas Interlock System, you should contact a professional Gas Interlock Installer, such as OTS, if any of the above applies to your kitchen.

The British Standard BS6173

In 2009 the British Standard BS6173 was amended to provide users of gas fired catering equipment with protection against the effects of exposure to combustion gases which are created during cooking with any type of gas. BS6173(2009) addresses these problems by requiring that an interlock system be installed into the extraction and gas supply system.

We use S&S Northern Gas Interlock Panels

Gas Interlock Panel

Fully backed by a 2 year reactive warranty

/Installation

It is possible to install a Gas Interlock System while your kitchen is in operation. Due to the simplicity of the systems we install and the experience of our installation teams, we are able to work around your busy periods and leave the disruptive elements of the installation until a more convenient time of day.

/Experienced

We will fit a main control panel near to your extract controller or exit, whichever is most convenient. This panel is then connected to pressure switches or current sensors on your gas pipework, which will not open the gas supply to your kitchen unless your input and extract fan is operating sufficiently.

/Quotes

If you require a quote, it is preferable to book a site survey first, that way we can check that the rest of the kitchen ventilation system complies with current regulations and if it can be fitted with our Gas Interlock Systems. You can call us on 0330 2233 137 to arrange a site visit.

A typical Gas Interlock System installed with 2 years reactive warranty will cost £950 + vat.
